Queen Marie-Antoinette | The Walters Art Museum
Miniature of Marie Antoinette, c.1778. This miniature may be copied from a now-lost portrait of Marie-Antoinette by Anne Vallayer-Coster, who was one of the queen's favorite artists. Vallayer-Coster was celebrated for her still lifes, but she received several important portrait commissions from the royal family, perhaps due to the favour shown her by Marie-Antoinette.

The rather ostentatious “Frégate de Junon” hairstyle, as sported by Marie Antoinette. © Fiell Image Archive, 2011 There is no hair more iconic, perhaps, than Marie-Antoinette’s elaborately curled and beribboned wigs. Her daringly avant-garde style and her love of fashion took Versailles by storm, and the ladies of court were constantly trying to emulate the Queen’s frequently changing coiffure.
