Mummification

Well-preserved brain which archeologists think is nearly 3000 years old (via The Daily Mirror).

'Oldest' human brain was probably preserved in mud for 2,600 years

Experts from York Archaeological Trust believe the 2,600-year-old brain was preserved because it was buried in a sealed clay pit and fats and proteins linking together in the organ.

Ancient tattoos may have been used as medicine

Ancient tattoos may have been used as medicine

We know that many ancient peoples practiced tattooing, based on the body art we see represented in figurines and wall carvings. But these tattoos found on the skin of the mummified 5,000-year-old body of Ötzi the Iceman reveal that body art wasn't just ceremonial.

Tollund Man (ca. 400 B.C.) is a bog body superstar. He was found in 1950 in Denmark. He was so well preserved that his discoverers thought he was a modern murder victim. On the initial autopsy report in 1950, doctors concluded that Tollund Man died by hanging rather than strangulation. The rope left visible furrows in the skin beneath his chin and at the sides of his neck.
