British Comedian Benny Hill served in the British Army in World War Two with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers serving as a searchlight operator in the Third Light Anti-Aircraft Searchlight Battery which landed in Normandy on 1st September 1944. From there they were sent to Dunkirk where a pocket of 7,000 Germans had been bypassed. Here they became part of the besieging force . Benny later served in Germany.
