German WWI Trench Christmas Eve, 1914 Muddy and just before bombardment. We built both the British & German Trenches slightly differently according to references I had researched. We unfortunately had to shoot this at night one hot summer evening when the sun didn't set until 22.00 and rose at 4.00 am, so not much shooting time. http://www.gedclarke.uk.com/html/spots/logitech-truce.html

German Trench. I couldn't believe my luck when I went around a Prop House in Romania with my local Set Decorator Oana Marinescu and scouring a top shelf at the back found these old metal tubes that turned out to be old German Trench Periscopes. See the soldier 2nd from right using one. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html
Vickers Machine Gun my Propmaster hired from a local museum in Romania for this set I designed for Logitech WWI Commercial. It was so difficult to fill the sand bags with soil as it was so hard and was dug up in boulders. It needed pummelling with a club hammer to break it down small enough to fill and we have over 500 of them to do. http://www.gedclarke.uk.com/html/spots/logitech-truce.html Bouldering, Dug Up, Sand Bag, Romania, Soil

No Mans Land Christmas Eve, 1914. We dug several bomb craters and coated them with different layers of earth, then the Sfx team came and dressed in the fallen snow. We only got a few hours of darkness to shoot this commercial. This was the early sunrise at about 3.30am, which gave the set a wonderfully gentle and eerie feel. Quite poignant, I thought. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html

No Man's Land, France 1914. We dug craters, planted Barbed Wire and original spiral steel posts from the Uk. dressed shell fragments, old crates and cartwheels, bullet casings. Planted 24 dead trees and set fire to them with our Sfx team, who also dressed in snow with falling snow and explosions in the background. All for a 60 second commercial. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/gedclarke/ged-clarke-film-sets/

German Trench. We actually had to bring water by bowser from water pumped from a small river 500 yards away to pump into the trench to create mud as the temperature was around 30 degrees at 10pm at night. These boys were sweltering in the greatcoats. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html

Logitech - Truce (2012)
German Trench. We had the German soldiers boiling potatoes and hanging out the washing. The German Barbed wire was held up with wooden posts, unlike the British which were Steel screwed posts. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html
an old black and white photo of men in the desert at night with flashlights
Logitech - Truce (2012)
British Trench. We lit the trench with little oil lamps and candles, which gave an eerie glow on the soldiers faces. It was quite a quiet and emotional scene, where a young Romanian extra cried on camera. I'm sure the set surroundings must have helped. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html

Christmas Day 1914. We had to try and cover parts of the set to continue shooting as the sun rose over No Mans Land, reflected in the muddy pools in the craters. Unimaginable how men had to fight in these conditions. I felt privileged to recreate a moment in. time like this. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html

Logitech - Truce (2012)
British Trench. We cast men of all ages..... mainly young, but had a few older men play the Sergeants. The younger extras looked quite spooked in the gentle light from the lamps which glowed in the Sfx generated smoke and fire from the burning trees. http://www.gedclarke.com/logitech-truce.html
