(INFLUENCE 8) I will definitely be incorporating music to my production, but to further improve and diversify my production I will use diegetic and non-diegetic sounds; this should help to develop my production and make it sound more professional and immersive.
(INFLUENCE 7) Music is used in this documentary in a very clever and subtle way when certain shots or scene are being shown in the short film/documentary. One example is whenever DDB (the artist) is entering any transport or waiting on food at a restaurant and even walking through the street; calm ‘vibey’ music is played. I think that music is used either as a filler when nothing particularly interesting is happening, or it’s used to imply a certain mood to a shot or a scene.
(INFLUENCE 6)I have already mentioned in my other research influences the fact that I will be looking into using shaky camera shots (scene 1), I feel like this is a way for me to shot moments in a more realistic way that shows how a person views situations, encounters and conversations etc in real life. Lastly, an aspect that I really like about this short film/documentary is the interesting use of music.
(INFLUENCE 5)This combination of cinematography is interesting to me, because of the specific camera work that is done at particular moments in the video viewers can be and are amerced in the action while watching, meaning the video gains their full attention.
(INFLUENCE 4) I find this interesting as current short films have characters that are meant to seem the average teenagers don’t really represent everyday teenage life and conversation. The second aspect that I spotted is the actual camera work that is done by the camera man, the shots seems to be slightly shaky most of the time when the camera is on the DDB’s face (the artist) or pointing at her, but then also the short film/documentary shows parts where the camera is very stationary and…
(INFLUENCE 3)The main technique that I identified is one that is not planned, but I can analyse and imitate it, the technique links with all of the aspects of the production which is the reality feel. The first aspect that I noticed first is how the people in the short film/documentary act which is very weird and funny which is normal, I will try and make character 2 and 3 (bullies) like this.
(INFLUENCE 2) I will use this influence because it captures all elements of everyday activities and the personality of not only the artist, but the people around her too (family and friends). At first I was adamant at looking into a short documentary with anyone who is well known, as this would not represent the lifestyle of normal young adult, but looking through the short film/documentary not including the artist performing, DDB (the artist) does everyday things.
(INFLUENCE) Unlike my other influences I have decided to look into a 'day in the life of' type of film. These videos are seen as a type of short film/documentary. The one that I will be analysing is "48 HOURS WITH IAMDDB (TheApeNinja)", released in March 2017 on the IAM DDB Youtube channel; the short film/documentary follows a female urban hip hop artist around the country for 48 hours, during live shows and interviews.
(INFLUENCE 3) The quick changing shots are all close up shots that directly show the expression of the characters faces which both appears to be smiling (light persona), while close ups of the two characters phone screens are shown; which reveals the horrible things they are texting about each other (Dark persona). I will definitely be using the techniques that I have identified with in my own production, as I think they can be highly beneficial to me.
(INFLUENCE 2) One very good technique that I have identified in this short film, is the quick changes between each shot during the long conversations that the two characters have with each other, and the conversations they have with their friends on their phone screens simultaneously. These shots help the conversation come across as very smooth or very awkward and slow depending on how they have been put together by the editor.
(INFLUENCE) This short film is called ‘Text me’ by Dream Team Directors, released in February 2013. This short film is about two teenagers who decide to go on a date, after meeting each other online. The plot to this short film is one that can be linked to the theme of light and dark, as the two main characters within the short film have two different personas that they show online and in real life, a dark side, which is the online personality, and a light side, which is shown in real life.
(NFLUENCE 3)The whole time these shots are switching from one to another the narrators voice grabs the attention of the audience. This sort of beginning definitely implies that the short film will be drama filled and tense. The beginning scenes to this short film is something I’d definitely like to use with in my own production, and if not at least try out.
(INFLUENCE 2) The first few shots within the short film are very engulfing, because of the combination of techniques and skills. The shots are mainly establishing shots and finish with a shot of the narrators back while he continues talking. The shots are of urban inner-city scenery, and appear to be handheld and shaky with shallow focus, showing slightly blurred backgrounds.
(INFLUENCE) This short film called ‘Deep it’ is by MYM: Million Youth Media, released in November 2016. This short film is about a young group of friends from London who get into trouble with a girls older brother, eventually one of the boys ends up getting stabbed. The plot for this short film has some similarities to my production, for example some characters show different sides of their personality in different scenes and situations, which could be linked with the theme of light and…
