Whether you have neurotypical kids or children with learning disabilities, the outdoors is one of the best places to learn life lessons. The great outdoors is more than a simple place to play this summer. It’s a fantastic and delightful time that every kid needs to experience. Time spent in nature is never a dull moment. Every small action is a teachable moment that can provide valuable lessons that kids can bring later in life.
How exactly does pollination occur? We know that bees play an important part in the cross-pollination of flowers, but there is so much more to learn! Today we’re reusing our empty Green Kid Crafts box and learning about the structure of a flower. We often think of dissection as involving a knife or other sharp object, but today we’ll just be using our hands and a pair of kids’ scissors.
With so many kids subscriptions to choose from, what makes Green Kid Crafts different from the rest? It may be the fact that we plant a tree with every purchase made, it may be our commitment to social responsibility, and it just may be our award winning STEAM kits that come with 4 or more activities to keep your kiddos busy all month! Shop our wide selection of single boxes or snag a subscription that works for your family!
Outdoor Fun: DIY Bottle Rocket What do you do with all those empty plastic bottles when you’re done? Do you toss them in the trash, or better yet, the recycle bin? Homemade Parachute Sometimes the most simple of projects can be the most fun! Today we’re making a homemade parachute for small toys from string and a coffee filter. The coolest part of this activity is that kids can decorate the parachute any way they’d like so each one is unique! Create teams of toys using colors, or just decorate for each individual toy. Build something with LEGOs and watch them glide to the ground with their parachute or attach any small toy to the parachute

Halloween is such a fun time to explore sensory play. I love all of the fun colors and various loose parts you can find in the stores at this time of year. We enjoyed putting together this simple but very entertaining sensory bin using one of the most fascinating sensory bases we’ve ever used, Playfoam Pluffle™ and Learning Resources’ Sand & Water Fine Motor Tool Set!
