The Illustrated City: Urban cycling is good for health, the wallet and the environment – but is still not without its risks

I love that mountain biking allows you to get to some uniquely beautiful areas from vantage points only seen due to getting off yer butt and going riding. An epic sunset on a lake is one highlight that I've enjoyed and wanted to capture that moment of joy in an easily identifiable and simple visual form, thus 'Sky has Spoken.'

The design for my poster this year portrays the first time I rode on this bridge off the Cedar Trail with a few of my coworkers. I was instantly drawn to how this bridge looked and felt. For a bike bridge, it’s notably complex, not to mention incredibly fun to ride. I really love the sharp lines of this structure which are in contrast to the open sky. My goal was to create a simple design depicting this experience.

Missing Mittens

I wanted to capture a classic cold-climate biking experience: the ‘I should have worn gloves’ ride. I think most bikers can relate to that first chilly morning commute or windy fall day when the changing of the seasons really catches you by surprise.

This poster was inspired by a dark park we visited last summer located in Northern Michigan. The park had nice paved paths leading to a beach area that overlooked Lake Michigan. *Note: this is a edition printing of this poster. The final sprint of the 2012 Olympic road race in London was immediately called into question. Indeed, it seemed odd. Having broken away eight and a half kilometres before the line, Vinokourov and Urán arrived onto the 400-metre-long finishing straight on The Mall together. It was a wonder that they had even made it there, …
