Architecture
The Harris Museum & Art Gallery was designed by Preston born architect James Hibbert, who made use of the Neo-Classical style, which can be seen through its "simplicity, symmetry of plan...and refinement of detail". The main architectural features that reflect this style are the columns, the Greek and Assyrian friezes, and the mosaic floors. The Harris Museum & Art Gallery opened its doors to the public in 1893 and was made a Grade I listed building in 1950.
