Man Ray - “Gift” Man Ray was an American modernist artist who spent most of his career in Paris, France. He was a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal.
The Dada movement claimed to be anti-art; it had a strong negative & destructive element. Rejecting all tradition, they sought complete freedom. Dada quickly spread from Zurich to other European cities. Dada artists claimed to have invented photomontage.
