Newcombe and Roche march into the Arena
Tony Roche and John Newcombe were so electrifying, powerful and colourful as a doubles partnership that they make the brilliant Bryan twins, of today, look mechanical and in black and white. Along with Alan Border, Denis Lillee, Steve Waugh and Shane Warne they were nearly a reason to emigrate to Oz. They always appeared like great mates who believed they could climb out of any hole together. I'm sure they inspired me with my fab doubles partner, Dave Leigh, to be unconventional.
