New Pavilion, Ayr. As concert parties evolved from open air performances to the more sophisticated summer shows, 'Pavilion Theatres' sprang up across the country. This type of theatre building made not only artistic, but also economic sense, as the organisers could present their shows irrespective of the weather. The New Pavilion on the Scottish South West coastal town of Ayr is indicative of the type of theatre being built during the 1920s. Special Collections Reference: STA PP 54
