I watched an excellent programme about Scottish painting recently and was compelled to create images of two of my favourite artists from North of the border; John Byrne and Peter Howson, who were both interviewed in the documentary. I created slightly caricatured versions of them, taking the great Sebastian Kruger as my inspiration. In doing this I tried to give the portraits a bit more of a psychological edge than a straightforward photo-realist rendition might achieve.
