Wow … what a success. We spent the morning pulling onions and look how many we’ve got. 🥳 I’m so happy and grateful for such a lovely harvest, especially as we get through so many onions, I literally can’t grow them fast enough. Now we just have to lay them out and let them dry / cure for a couple of weeks. A New Carburettor For My Landrover 90 …

After working through a few issues with a rough running engine, we narrowed it down to a problem with the carburettor. So, my Landrover 90 now has a shiny new carb … happy days.🤞😊 I’m so grateful this is an engine that can be fixed and worked on, without the need for computers. Homegrown Blueberries For The Freezer …

Well it’s another sunny day in the Highlands of Scotland, and we’re taking advantage of the glorious weather to harvest some more goodies for our freezer. Today it’s the turn of the blueberry bushes … for the last few years we’ve gotten a handful or two, but this year we’re talking bags of gorgeous berries. I’m so excited, and I’ve already had two requests for muffins … 😃🎉 Again I like to freeze our blueberries … It’s so easy. First get rid of any mushy berries and remove the stems. Lay them on a tray (single layer) and pop them in the freezer. That’s it, you don’t even have to rinse them before freezing. When frozen, transfer to a freezer bag, date and label and you’re good to go. Then, just pull out the berries when you need them, rinse and enjoy. #blueberries #homesteading #scotland

It’s a beautiful day in the garden and we’re really enjoying the sunshine … we definitely haven’t seen much of it this summer. Anyway, todays wee harvest includes sweet tomatoes and delicious homegrown garlic … it smells absolutely amazing. It should be enough to see us through the winter, so that’s great. I like to peel our garlic cloves and freeze them … I’ve tried other methods to store it, but this works best for us. Homegrown Cherries 🍒

Our garden is finally starting to mature, and we’re harvesting beautiful crops from the fruit trees we planted. For the first time this year, our cherry trees have produced a good amount of fruit, and I can’t tell you how exciting that is. We quickly put a net over the biggest tree, as the birds were circling, just waiting for the right moment to pick a tasty treat … not this time, sorry. Then we waited patiently … and I’m so glad we did. The fruit is plump, juicy and oh so sweet and I can’t wait to make that cherry pie we’ve all been dreaming about … or maybe some jam … we’ll see. We don’t do it very often, but today we’re having a sunday roast. We’ve already harvested the potatoes, carrots, parsnips to roast. We planted a rainbow mix of carrots this year and it’s such fun pulling them up, as you never know what colour you’ll get … So far we’ve only pulled yellow, but I live in hope … my kids really want to find a purple one. It so simple to prepare, full of flavour and healthy too.
