Amid the turbulence of today I have been letting myself feel all the sadness I need to on the anniversary of Mum dying. She would be throwing herself into home educating with her chin up chest out and shoulders back just as she did with everything else. Im not pretending to be half the teacher she was but I intend to do my best to channel her spirit at all times over the upcoming uncertain weeks and months. Id seen quite a few posts about this book describing it as science-fictiony which meant I - shamefully - avoiding picking it up for quite some time with that genre not being top of my list. However a recent browsing session in @waterstonesleam led me to open it up and fall in love with it immediately. Id seen quite a few posts about this book describing it as science-fictiony which meant I - shamefully - avoiding picking it up for quite some time with that genre not being top of my list. However a recent browsing session in @waterstonesleam led me to open it up and fall in love with it immediately. All of @coraliebickfordsmiths books are stunning and this her newest one is no exception. Each illustration could be a @libertylondon print all of its own - they are so beautifully patterned and intricately detailed. The words weave the tale of Bird who is worried about leaving her favourite tree when the seasons change but after realising how well the tree will be cared for by the other animals in the forest she finds the courage to take flight. In what will be our last book club for a while we had a marvellous session last Thursday with International Womens Day as our theme. We had books by amazing women; books featuring fictional amazing women; and books featuring real-life amazing women. It was lovely to see all members of the group appreciating everything on offer and learning about people events and stories that were new to them.
