Zaire was the name of what is today the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the period between 1971 and 1997. Under the infamous dictator Joseph Mobutu, a new flag was introduced in the pan-African colors of green, red and yellow, with a black first holding a torch. This particular flag measures 6 by 9 feet, and was made for use at the U.S. embassy in Kinshasa. It has U.S. consulate stamps on the heading.
