Still life painting reached one of its great peaks in Spain between roughly 1600 and 1750. Words like "stark" and "austere" are often used to describe these paintings. This lean and controlled sensibility gives these pieces tremendous psychological drama and artistic depth. Obviously, photographic still life falls outside the scope of this board. It includes paintings only.
Art from Spain - Luis Egidio Meléndez was a Spanish painter. Although he received little acclaim during his lifetime and died in poverty, Meléndez is recognized today as the greatest Spanish still-life painter of the century.
