P-3 Literacy- Writing
Bye bye Fall - Learning in Spain
We have been working on Proper Nouns and Common nouns. If you have been following for a while you know that I would not miss the opportunity to create a craft. So we created these Fall trees and I asked the kids to classify the nouns (Proper Nouns on the left/Common Nouns on the right).... Read More
Verbs! {Interactive Freebie}
Happy Wednesday! We've been working on verbs a lot the past week...and I REALLY wish I had taken more pictures of what we have done...but...fail! We have sung songs {from YouTube} about verbs, acted verbs out, made sentences with verbs and sorted them. I just wanted to share really quick with you guys this little interactive page that I had my kids put in their interactive notebooks today! I made this easy-peasy for my kids...today was a half day and we were already a little short on time so…
March Madness
March Madness has something to do with basketball, right?? It makes me think of the countdown till spring break and how quickly the days pass after it. I told someone today that being in my class was like heaven on earth. They are so wonderful, I can't even think about June when they will leave me for grander horizons. I need it all to slow down! Saw this wonderful idea on Pinterest and knew I had to use it: I couldn't find the original person that uploaded it but kudos to whoever you are :)…
Dr. Seuss Feet, Tongues, and Cats!
Bare with me...it's a long one :) But in the end, you'll find out about the cat shoes!! So it'll be worth it, right?! Today was crazy socks day...can you guess which TWO books we read?? p.s....there are 2 different versions apparently. A has a version that is different from the one in my room. I can recite A's book by memory we read it so much, but the book in my classroom did NOT match..hmmm... We turned one of my Dr. Seuss Centers into a read around the room. They had to find the matching…

Simple Literacy Provocations
I know some people get overwhelmed when trying to think of new ideas for provocations. Today I want to share with you some simple ideas for literacy provocations that may spark some new ideas for you! Enjoy! If you are reading this and wondering what a provocation is, please read Fairy Dust's post: What is a Provocation? *Note: These provocations are from a Reggio-Inspired Preschool here in Tulsa, OK, Rosa Parks ECEC. These provocations were found in PreK classrooms, ages 4-5. Chicka-Chicka…

February Centers
I found these little heart containers at the Dollar Store and I thought they would be the perfect Valentine's Day center activity. I thought of 3 different ways to use them, but they all have the same concept. Here are the hearts... I had 3 students come back at a time to teach them how to use the center. Directions: The students have to choose a numbered heart, find the letters inside, unscramble the letters and then write the word in the corresponding heart. 1. Here is the first way I used…
100th Day and Vowel Fun!
Whew! Can I just say this week was exhausting!? There seemed to be a high level of excitement in the air, maybe it was the snow, the 100th day, or the snow? How about both! The kids were PSYCHED all week for our 100th day celebration. We started by making our 100th day placements early on in the week (so we could get those babies laminated in time), our 100 year old portraits, and every day we have eagerly been counting down the days. By Friday, we weren't sure if we were even going to have…

Keen On Kindergarten
I hope your October is off to a good start! I am still in a bit of shock that it is already October and time to start thinking about report cards! I'm not ready for that at all! September went by so quickly, that I still have tons of photos that I never got around to posting and blogging about-I will try to get to that this week! My kinder kiddos have been working super hard to learn all of the letters in the alphabet, and they love playing different alphabet games during our center time. We…
Loughton preschool children were showing an interest in letter writing so an outing was organised to visit the post office. The local postman then visited to answer any questions and they also had the opportunity to look inside his van. The role play area was then turned into a post office and children are now exhanging letters with Spitalfields nursery

The Cookie Sheet Challenge! - Make Take & Teach
It all started with a cookie sheet. I was observing a student in a kindergarten classroom during literacy center time and in one of the centers the teacher placed magnetic letters on a cookie sheet and the students made words with the letters. Morning meeting calendar
I found a great site, Mama Jenn, that had a great calendar for morning meetings. I decided to recreate one for my classroom and change a few things for my needs. (click on the Mama Jenn link for original calendar). I decided to keep the day, month and year (like Mama Jenn)- however I decided for the date to have proper dates instead of numbers. In Australia, our date goes day/month/year, so I also decided to put them in that order on my board. I downloaded a 2012 calendar from…
