Buckle, 1913, by Jessie Marion King. Jessie Marion King was a Scottish illustrator mostly of children's books. She also designed jewelry and fabric, and painted pottery. She was married to E. A. Taylor, artist and furniture designer. She was born in Bearsden, near Glasgow.

On the 12th November 1900, the schooner 'Monreith' (built in 1876) was on route from Newcastle to Silloth in Cumberland carrying a cargo of stone. While trying to take shelter in Kirkcudbright Bay, from a storm, the vessel became grounded in the estuary and was driven over Milton Sands before finally coming to rest inshore at Goatwell Bay - all crew survived.
