Fascinating Photos of Famous Authors as Teenagers

Over the weekend, Vol.1 Brooklyn pointed us towards a delightful collection of never-before-seen photographs of Ernest Hemingway as a teenager, in all his handsomely smug glory. Inspired, we took it upon ourselves to dig up a handful of snapshots of other legendary authors in those awkward (or not so awkward, as the case may be) teenage years, before they penned the words that made them famous.

Okehampton Castle When in the town I take a look at the castle imagining those who once lived there. Countess Adeliza Fitzbaldwin of Okehampton who inherited the barony in C12 must have been literate. One legend about Adeliza tells how she showed compassion to a group of Cistercian monks who she'd come upon; they'd had to leave their cell at Brightley. Adeliza is said to have felt so sorry for the monks that she gave them her own manors, Ford and Thorncombe. Okehampton Castle Okehampton Castle is a medieval motte and bailey castle in Devon, England. It was built between 1068 and 1086 by Baldwin FitzGilbert following a revolt in Devon against Norman rule, and formed the centre of the Honour of Okehampton, guarding a crossing point across the West Okement River.
