Crested Barbet The crested barbet (Trachyphonus vaillantii) ('trachys'=rough, 'phone'=voice, sound') is a sub-Saharan bird in the Lybiidae family. Its specific name commemorates François Levaillant, a famed French naturalist.
My all-time favorite bird. In a huge aviary, in Guangzhou, China, they used to come running by me, and I was totally amazed by their colors and the patterns of their feathers. This picture shows only the head; the rest of the body
