LMS Fowler Jinty steam locomotive class - Class Information
Following on from the last Class Information, which featured the GWR 2800s and 2884s (viewable here), this week, we turn our heads to the LMS Fowler Jinty class of steam locomotive.
To a small boy, the old Euston could be fascinating and frightening in equal measure. It's rambling nature would mean that there were all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore, but on the other hand, unpredictable steam locomotives would 'blow off', leaving one a quivering wreck. On the day my father lifted me into a cab for a closer look, it could have scarred me for life, or started a life-time of interest. Fortunately it resulted in the latter! 1962: The 'Bournemouth Belle'
Having arrived from London a 'Merchant Navy' Pacific loco backs out of the platform at Bournemouth West with the prestigous Pullman. Hampshire, England.
NBR G Class No. 42 - One of a class of 35 small engines for shunting duties in dockyards and for short industrial sidings etc. Usually had a wagon containing coal behind it. This loco finished working on BR at St Margarets in 1962. Currently on display in the museum.
