“Understanding the impact of materials is crucial when it comes to making more sustainable purchases. A good rule of thumb is to avoid virgin synthetics such as polyester – which makes up 55 per cent of clothes globally – as these are derived from fossil fuels and take years to break down. Not all natural materials are made the same: organic cotton, for example, uses significantly less water than conventional cotton and doesn’t use harmful pesticides.” (Via: @vogue)
ESPLAR – a Brazilian NGO based in Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará – provide technical support to the organic cotton farmers and advise them in the field, helping them foster the agro-ecological paradigm. The agricultural engineers of ESPLAR give support and help the farmers to organise and protect their harvests. By introducing neem trees, for instance, they have created a natural protection for the cotton plants. #veja #vejaproject

Since VEJA started in 2005, we bought more than a 130 tons of organic & fair trade cotton, dealing directly with the producers & cooperatives around Taua, a village located in the Northeast region of Brazil. We spent time with them, understood as much as we can the issues they are facing everyday and the positive impact of agroecology on field. In 2016, VEJA is ready to buy 26 tons of organic cotton for the next 2 years. #veja #vejashoes #vejaproject
This year, after three years of measuring our environmental impact, we are proud to announce our average impact per kg of material used has reduced by 35% since 2013. Both VEJA founders @sebastien_kopp & @fgmorillion talk in Darwin in front of VEJA and Surfrider Foundation teams. VEJA & SURFRIDER join forces to build a new collaboration. Both teams reunited in Bordeaux at @magasin.general Darwin to launch a new sneaker made from used recycled plastic bottles. The insole shows the major pollution issues in our oceans : plastic waste and cigarettes. #veja #vejashoes#vejadarwin #vejasurfrider #vejaoceanclub#bordeaux #studioboheme
