Sustainable brutalist architecture hits new heights at this Stuttgart property, which has a monolithic, angular form. Local practice MBA/S Matthias Bauer Associates designed the hillside home in 2014 from insulating concrete, with no joints or added layers of insulation – the first of its kind in Germany. New York architect Morris Adjmi worked with hospitality company Method Co to complete the 25-room hotel, located on the city’s George Street. Rooms are papered in busy, eye-bending patterns, set off by parquet flooring and plain white walls. And, of course, there are plenty of houseplants in a nod to the Victorians’ plant fever.
