Memphis Group Clock 1986: George Sowden, designer & architect, moved to Milano in 1970 where he started working with Ettore Sottsass and Olivetti. In 1981, He was one of the co-founders of the Memphis Group, the design movement that had a significant impact on design aesthetics in the eighties.

Ettore Sottsass "Max" 1987
Made of a terrazzo tile base over wood, burl wood drawers, pink patterned plastic laminate and clear lucite. Memphis used different materials, some expensive and others cheap on the same piece as part of their design ethos. This was the last large piece designed by Sottsass for Memphis, and I believe it was named for Max Palevsky who was a client and a friend of Sottsass. 88"x52"x13". See other images below.
