Did You Know? It is estimated that, over the next 20 years, 12,000 planes will be decommissioned. Today, between 40% and 50% of the weight of dismantled aircraft is reused to help keep other aircraft airborne. The average age of a car, when scrapped in the UK, is 14.2 years. Vehicle reuse and recovery rose by 20% since 1999, to 95% of each vehicle by weight. SpaceX has been developing the technology over several yearsto facilitate full and rapid reusability of space launch vehicles.
Did You Know? 1,630 Wells are expected to be decommissioned the UKCS over the next 10 years. This will require full recovery of 59,610 tonnes of Subsea structures. Rather than scrapping these structures, an opportunity exists to refurbish, re-certify and reuse a wide range of critical components. Carbon emissions can be prevented, through reuse of this equipment, amounting to up to 48,500 tonnes CO2e. This is equivalent to preventing 120 million miles, driven by the average passenger vehicle.
