Quarter Glass House by Proctor and Shaw
Quarter Glass House is a minimal residence located in London, United Kingdom, designed by Proctor and Shaw. A sequence of stepped levels has been created to define kitchen, dining, terrace and lawn in a ‘controlled descent’ from house to garden, adding height, light and volume. To allow the space to engage positively with the garden, floors were lowered sequentially from house to garden, resulting in dramatic height and volume.

Grillno Restaurant is a minimal restaurant located in Saitama, Japan, designed by Keiji Ashizawa. Only a few minutes walk from Kawaguchi station (one of the largest Tokyo commuter towns) Grillno is a small and cozy, 26 seat restaurant, run by one of my old, good friends. Since starting his career as a chef, the architect has been supporting him with the planning of his restaurants.

The Lapa Apartment is located in an 1819 building from the Portuguese ‘Pombalino’ period, in the historical centre of Lisbon. The adopted solutions proposed to enhance the historical heritage while harmoniously introduce contemporary features that celebrate the traditional craftsmanship as well as Lisbon’s unique natural light and views out to the river.

Undertaking a feasibility study identifying the potential for expansion on all floors the most efficient approach, given the small existing footprint, was to add a full-width, single-story addition at ground floor, extending to meet the depth of the neighbor’s rear addition.

Adapting the residence into a contemporary family home for a family of five, we were conscious of the history and the rich and endearing character of the original house. The renovations add a complimentary layer to continue the story of the house without erasing the charm and memories of the previous lives.

Moxy Headquarters is a minimal space located in Porto, Portugal, designed by Pablo Pita. The project is the office for a software studio, converted from a former industrial warehouse. The first impression of the space was strong and related to three elements. A wide, incredibly light, and delicate old steel roof. A long and dark entrance corridor. And a torn-down wall creating an informal opening to a patio. All three were maintained and enhanced.

10th Avenue is a minimalist detached duplex located in Montréal, Canada, designed by Paul Bernier Architecte. The architects first sought to reorganize the partitions to obtain fluid circulations and spaces that are well-proportioned, clean, and uncluttered. Several new openings have been made in the exterior walls to illuminate the space at any time of the day.

Alexander Kielland House is a minimalist residence located in Norway, designed by Trodahl Arkitekter. This detached residence near Sandnes town centre, on the southwest coast of Norway, features a maritime climate with abundant rainfall. The plot slopes steeply to the east, dropping about 7 meters and overlooking the town. The poured concrete structure encloses roughly 2368 square feet of floor space.
