The Chantry neighbourhood of Harlow New Town was designed by Fry, Drew & Partners ...i.e. Maxwell Fry and his wife, Jane Drew. It was built 1950-3. Flat fronts and shallow monopitched roofs. "All very Scandanavian", remarks Pevsner. Are these owned by the local authority I wonder, or are certain conditions of ownership imposed?. Since the tenant's "right to buy", few terraces or groupings of local authority houses have remained uncompromised by demonstrations of their owners' individuality…
