There’s something so lovely about the light in the middle of summer, and it reminded us of the Monets painted by our Level 1 students earlier this year. They were all fantastic, but we love this painting by Jake Dunlop. The hazy summer feel to the wildflower meadow, and the red of the poppies stands out so vibrantly! What beautiful use of colour and great brushwork Jake - well done! 🎨☀️🥀✨ #monet #poppies #summer #light #impressionism #youngartist #proud Impressionism Art, Poppy Field, Dunlop, Hazy

This acrylic painting, completed in under 90 minutes (with a pencil sketch too!) is by 14 yr old Millie Gordon. To paint with such speed and skill requires years of practice and dedication to improving skills in drawing, in painting and in observation. Look closely; can you see how Millie has used the shadows and reflected light to create shape in the bottle? This is a fantastic piece of observational painting, more that simply a study, this is an illustration of what constant development is. Callum has used a technique called 'glazing', used with oil paints for centuries. First a detailed painted is created using blacks, whites and greys. This enables the artist to really study the TONE. By taking the colour out you can really concentrate on looking for the subtle variations in the light and shadow, it's a brilliantly effective method. Callum has then 'glazed' the painting using thin layers of watered down paint, this allows the tonal values underneath to come through. Callum, Light And Shadow

Elodie has been coming to the Little Art School for years and we have seen her skills grow and grow. Look at the way Elodie has observed the light and shadow in both the glass and the complex metal clasp? It is a fantastic piece of observational painting.
