The body of this friendly dinosaur was a madeira sponge cake filled with jam and buttercream while the head was firstly made from rice krispie treats, modelled while it was still warm and then covered in fondant once cool. It was held in place not only by fondant scales but by a dowel or two inside the cake. If you didn't have a dowel, you could always use drinking straws... just be sure to cut them to the desired length so they can't be seen.
This was for an Indiana Jones fan to celebrate his birthday. All the novelty decorations were hand modelled from fondant.
