I like the way they did this harth and the color painted behind the stove. I also like the wood beams framing the stove in. Maybe have similar framing and the make a gate around the stove out of the same wood.

We've just had a log burner fitted in the living room but are without a mantlepiece!  A small contribution towards a chunky old sleeper from salvoweb or a reclamation yard would help us get somewhere to put our candlesticks!

While this living room boasts a small woodstove and not a fireplace proper, a garland decked out with vintage skates and stockings creates the illusion of a mantel.
