South Sudan
With a tropical climate and few roads across the country’s vast distances, MAF’s pioneers identified modern-day South Sudan as the African nation most in need of a flight service as early as 1948. Regular operations began in 1950 with basic equipment, poor maps, and only intermittent radio communications. 75 years on, travellers to remote communities face many of the same challenges. The needs if anything, have only grown.

Madagascar
Despite the island’s beauty, its people are battered by tropical cyclones, limited by poverty, and have little access to healthcare. With poor roads, torrential rains and destructive floods, the need for MAF is great. A short flight saves days of arduous overland travel. Church and mission organisations fly with us to take God’s love to those living in isolation – enabling them to receive primary healthcare, agricultural development, education, evangelistic outreach and disaster relief.

Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea, in the southwestern Pacific is a country of immense cultural and biological diversity, it’s known for its beaches and coral reefs. Isolated communities rely on MAF to fly in medical staff, teachers, missionaries and Bible translators, as well as materials to build and equip schools, hospitals and Bible colleges. We also fly local produce to market to help people generate income. Emergency flights save patients lengthy and dangerous overland travel.
Bangladesh is home to 158 million people and is one of the world’s poorest countries. Many rivers and the huge Ganges Delta make overland travel difficult. By operating an amphibious aircraft, large expanses of water can be transformed from being a hindrance into a useable asset. The amphibious C208 is able to land on water sites in many of the least accessible areas with dramatic results: journeys that can take 1 to 2 days by land can be covered in around 1 hour by air. MAF in Chad
MAF has been supporting medical outreaches in Chad for over 50 years. Flights bring Chadian doctors from the capital, N'Djamena to remote villages with no access to healthcare. We also fly medical staff from Adventist Health International and BMS World Mission. 'We give thanks to MAF Chad,' says Dr Ali Waidou has led the safari flights for three years. 'Our prayer is that the Lord gives us the opportunity for this work to continue.'
