HMS Swale, a River Class Frigate.151 River Class frigates were launched between '41 and '44 for use as convoy escorts in the North Atlantic. The majority served with the RN & RCN, some served with other Allied navies. They were designed by William Reed to have the endurance and anti-submarine capabilities of the Black Swan-class sloops, while being quick and cheap to build in civil dockyards using the machinery and construction techniques pioneered in the Flower-class corvettes.

HMS Cam(K264) a River class Frigate. built by G.Brown of Greenock, build was completed on 21/01/44. One of the four River class to be fitted with steam Turbines instead of steam reciprocating engines.  On 18th July'44 whilst involved in a depth charge attack on a U-boat, an underwater explosion severely damaged her. HMS Waveney(K248), a River class Frigate built by Smith Docks, Middlesbrough & completed on 16/09/42. Commissioned into 40th Escort Group. Spending her initial career in convoy duty in the Atlantic, after a refit in early 44 was assigned to Assault Force J as HQ Ship. On D-day she controlled the landing on /Juno of 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade. Afterwards was transferred to Force W Eastern Fleet. Participating in landings at Rangoon, finished her war alongside at Saigon supporting British…

HMS Nith(K 215) a River class Frigate built by  Henry Robb of Leith & commissioned 16/02/43. Saw service in Normandy, India & Far East during WW II. In '48 she was sold to the Egyptian Navy & renamed Domiat. on 31/1056 during the Suez crisis she was challenged & engaged by the light cruiser HMS Newfoundland. Reduced to a burning hulk she was sunk by destroyer HMS Diana. This engagement marked the last time a warship was sunk by another warship using conventional gun action. HMS Nadder(K392) a River class Frigate built by Smith Dock Co, South Bank on Tees & commissioned 20/01/44. In april '44 involved in Greek Naval Mutiny & captured corvette Apostolis. On 12/08/44 took part in sinking of U-198 near Seychelles. On 10/08/45 whilst returning from an OSS operation she  was attacked by Japanese aircraft, this was after Hiroshima & Nagasaki. transferred to Royal Indian Navy in Feb.'46 & renamed HMIS Shamser.
