Born in Nyack, New York, Edward Hopper (1882-1967) captured the twentieth-century isolation, energy, and endeavor of America’s cities and towns, countryside, and coastline. Hopper’s widow bequeathed his entire artistic estate to the Whitney Museum of American Art.
