You can't live off-grid if you have nowhere to live. How you acquire this living space is dependent on your resources and style. Those who seek the thrill of the open road would do best in a self-sufficient mobile home. For the DIY type, building your own, as Elizabeth Pearson did in Spain, might be the challenge you need. For those who are not particularly crafty, a prefabricated model like those sold by Big World Homes or Green Moxie would be more your speed.Image via Greenmoxie Tiny House

As seen on Tiny House Nation May 25th episode. This is a 400sf tiny house that accommodates 2 adults and two children; dining for up to 12; a full kitchen with Island; luxury bath; indoor/outdoor living; totally wired and wireless. Built for the family by Lil Lodges in Alabama then trucked to NY state. If you are a family of two, no second floor is needed so you could have vaulted ceilings throughout. Cost to build/furnish: $100K

If I ever had the money to build my own house. I would put an american type veranda round it, be so nice to sit out there and read on a summer night whilst it rained :-)
