It seems fitting to offer a study of bluebells as the dusk draws in - taken within a week of the previous photo. Time has already moved on and it will be another year before these flowers can be seen on a late spring evening. Walking tonight it struck me that the cuckoos' calls are now absent too. . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #stives #cornwall

Field with a view. From a recent walk near Porthcurno Cornwall. Not an area I recall visiting often but a good mix of landscapes. . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #porthcurno #cornwall

It's neither far away nor exotic but I love this little hill above St Ives. The weather and light is so changeable. Perhaps it reminds me of Yorkshire. . . . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #stives #cornwall #hills #clouds #green #grass

Taken from the same hill as yesterday but looking towards the coast and St Ives. The sea mist had gone by the afternoon. I heard a cuckoo or two. . . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #stives #cornwall

There's been a fair old sea mist swirling over St Ives today. Here's a shot from the hills high above the town to the right is the periphery of Towednack. . . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #stives #cornwall

Stretched my legs today. A bit further to the right is Land's End Airport. Cuckoo and skylark calls rang in the air. A baby adder bathed on the path. And a disused china clay works. . . . . . #landscapephotography #landscape #photography #spring #cornwall #yellow #green

This toffee tenmoku yunomi is one of 20 pieces (some already sold) currently showing in the 'High Tea' exhibition at the Porthminster Gallery St Ives. The glaze pools and runs in the heat of the kiln picking up details and marks that were made in the fresh clay for this purpose. If you're in St Ives see it @porthminstergallery . . . . . #yunomi #tea #vessel #turned #toffee #tenmoku #glaze #pottery #clay #stoneware #ceramics #craft #handmade #making #handcrafted #ceramic #maker #artisan…

One from a winter walk near Walton West Yorkshire Winter 2017. There was a great quality to the light and also the first time I'd been walking in that area. Many interesting things to see from expansive agriculture commercial woods to disused canals and railways. # # # # # #photography #blackandwhite #monochrome #landscape #trees #shadow #winter #walking #wakefield #walton #westyorkshire #yorkshire

The Lighthouse, Penzance, 2017.

The Lighthouse, Penzance,

A recent yunomi - or everyday drinking cup. It is decorated with a nuka glaze that uses wood ash as a flux. The wood ash is usually collected from people's fires sieved and washed several times before it is added to the glaze mix. The white colour comes from a surplus of silica in the glaze which acts as an opacifier. It has quite a soft feel to the surface. You can see that the right of the pot has had more heat than the left - the surface has settled more and the colour response is…

Some recent 'one gulp' cups. The left guinomi has been decorated with slip (liquid clay) which I've wiped through with my fingers. I've added rough materials to the clay to bring out texture and feeling in the surface and used a thin coating of glaze to preserve the more austere feeling in the clay. It can be a bit rough on the hands but I think it's worth it :) The right guinomi is decorated with a nuka type glaze which used wood ash as a flux. The white colour comes from a surplus of…
