Released to the world in 2009, this undated photo shows the Blitz rescue dog known as Rip as he rescued a trapped victim from a bombed out building in London. Rip was a stray dog who became something of a War hero after being found homeless and starving during a bombing raid on London.

London at War - The Blackout..   No lights could be shown at night, the purpose being to prevent German bombers being guided by lights from the ground.   Homes had to have heavy curtains which prevented any light from inside being visible from outside. Streets were patrolled by air-raid wardens who would warn a householder if light was escaping and persistent offenders could be fined.
