An Artist Reversed Gender Roles In Old Sexist Advertisements & They're Both Poignant And Hilarious

Vintage advertisements are certainly not known for their progressive depictions of gender roles. To show just how absurd they would be by today’s standards, visual artist and photographer Eli Rezkallah created a photo series reimagining vintage ads…

Eli Rezkallah is a visual artist/photographer who recently created a photo series entitled, "In a Parallel Universe" that reimagines sexist ads from the century with the gender roles reversed.

60's Ads

The image of a perfect woman in the 1950s is familiar to all of us – a diligent wife, slaving around the house all day, preparing delicious meals for her hardworking husband, taking care of the children, and all that with a smile, of course. This image was reflected a lot in the ads of that era too. Inspired by them, photographer and video editor from Beirut, Lebanon, Eli Rezkallah created a series called “In A Parallel Universe” where he switched up the gender roles portrayed in those ads…

Another beautiful embroidery installation. In Ilaria’s words, embroidering is a “courageous sign of preservation, of mending a wound, of keeping a memory or of disguising an apparent shape.” Love. Link: Ilaria Margutti
