Jenny Saville's work appears to focus on mothers and women. Her work is very gestural, depicting the process of a mother holding her child. Her lines breathe life into the movement of an intimate moment between mother and child with the unpredictable characteristics of a child. I find her work to be very focused and certain. Her build-up of lines creates texture in facial features as well as the darks of shadows. I think her gestural pieces are the most captivating because they show moments.
