เรือที่ไปดูวาฬเป็นเรือประมงขนาดกลาง ที่มีการตกแต่งสำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวออกชมวาฬกลางทะเล ผู้ขับเรือเป็นไต๋กงผู้ชำนาญในทะเลอยู่แล้ว และมีความรู้ในทะเล ดังนั้นการเดินเรือกลางทะเลจึงมีความรู้เรื่องลมทะเล คลื่นและการวิ่งเรือ และมีใบผู้ขับเรืออย่างถูกต้อง เรือทุกลำที่ออกมีเสื้อชูชีพปลอดภัย และมีการกำหนดจำนวนคนตามขนาดของเรืออย่างถูกต้อง ถ้าผิดจากนี้ก็จะไม่ออกบริการให้นักท่องเที่ยว
