Cruising the Mediterranean with The Azamara Journey
For those who prefer to focus on the destination, the Azamara cruise fleet are smaller, boutique style luxurious cruises with a predominantly American clientele. Azamara cruises dock for longer in ports to make the most of the destination and its smaller size means that it can access more ports. Our experience started in Barcelona where we wove our way through the Mediterranean Sea.

SS Canberra leaving Belfast 1961 c
My grandfather, Gary Graham, worked in the Belfast shipyard of Harland & Wolff and one of the ships he worked on was the P&O liner Canberra (in my opinion one of the most beautiful ships to come out of Harland & Wolff). He took this picture on (I think) 28th April 1961, when Canberra was leaving Belfast for Southampton, to begin her maiden voyage. My mother would have been just 3 months old at this time. Taken on Kodachrome 35mm slide film using an Ilford Sportsman camera.

Oceanos
MTS Oceanos
Oceanos was a shocking event viewed all over the world. She was a neglected ship, at the end of her life when, during a storm rusted steel in the hull collapsed allowing the generator room to flood and power lost. With no power the ship was doomed. Without raising alarm the entire crew & capt. abandoned ship. Evac was lead by an entertainer, saving everyone's life. The capt. flew off in a helicopter saying, "When I say abandon ship it's for everyone. If some people want to stay, they can…
