Shunki Reitaisai, the Nikko Spring Festival The highlight of Nikko's Grand Festival of Spring is a Samurai procession honouring Tokugawa Ieyasu, Japan's first Shogun, who was buried at Toshogu Shrine in 1617. Over 1000 men, lion dancers, musicians and Shinto priests take part. The procession escorts sacred portable shrines through the streets of Nikko in a re-enactment of the famous Shogun's burial procession, known as Hyakumono-Zoroe Sennin Gyoretsu.

The Daki Kashiwan mon (double oak-leaf family crest) of the Hachisuka clan appears on the Kabuto. This kabuto is an exemplary example of late Muromachi-period (1530-50) armature, with its bowl consisting of 62 overlapping iron plates with 1953 hoshi (bullet-shaped rivets) precisely arranged, decreasing in size as they approach the tehen (hole) in the top of the helmet bowl. The mempo (mask) and laced neck guard are lacquered in an imitation rust finish that was popular for that armour.    This is on display at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne, Australia till Nov 2014 Muromachi Period, Samurai Armor, Hoshi, Melbourne Australia, Helmets, Rust, Knight, Armour, Bullet
