Franny and Zooey - J.D. Salinger. Although not nearly as famous as Catcher in the Rye, Franny and Zooey is a must-read. The novel focuses on the two youngest children of the Glass family -- a frequent subject in Salinger's short stories. The book is split into two parts. The short story "Franny" finds the precocious Franny Glass in college, disenchanted with the world around her. And the novella "Zooey," tells of her older brother trying to help Franny through her existential crisis.

Highlighting a lesser-known aspect of one of America's most influential authors, this new collection displays Jack Kerouac's interest in and mastery of haiku.
