Finsbury Park, Plimsoll Road bus stand C1950's (1/2)

RTL 664 on route 19 stands outside the staff canteen at Plimsoll Road, just out of view on the right (see later pictures in this album). There's an unidentified single decker bus behind which could well be a TD type on route 236. The cream upper window surrounds on the RTL was a short lived innovation introduced after the war; in the early fifties the standard livery became all over red with just a cream band between decks. During and after the war, most buses carried a restricted blind…

085-Charing Cross Road in the 1950's

The layout here completely changed when the one-way system was introduced in the early 1960's. The RT has come from the Charing Cross Road and is in Cambridge Circus making a right turn into Shaftesbury Avenue. There was an island in the middle of this junction and public toilets, which you can just see. The Palace Theatre is off camera to the left. The Barclay's Bank building behind the bus became an unusual record shop during the sixties where, with the help of the most helpful and…

This lovely pic comes from the website devoted to memories of Macfisheries www.macfisheries.co.uk/index.htma a wet fish store common in many towns in the UK until its demise in the late 1970's. Not sure about the buses, but I think one is an ST and the other and RT, although it could be an SRT. Info/comments welcome.

I have no idea who the photographer was but I cannot imagine there is any Copyright involved. If anyone knows differently please let me know. It was sent to me along with dozens of other nostalgic 1950s reminders in one of these often annoying 'round robin' sort of emails . What caught my eye about this photo is the Mann Egerton bodywork I have seen references to these vehicles (there were two NWE562 fleet no 362 being the other) but I cannot recall ever having seen a photo of either. Mann…
