William Wetmore Story was an American sculptor, art critic, poet and editor. Angel of Grief is an 1894 sculpture by William Wetmore Story which serves as the grave stone of the artist and his wife at the Protestant Cemetery, Rome.
If you haven't figured it out by now, Victorian graveyards were packed and overflowing with bodies. The average churchyard could contain anywhere between 60 and bodies during the height of cemetery overcrowding in the Victorian era.
