Interior of the Manchester Arndale Centre, showing the chiming clock suspended from the ceiling in Halle Square. Photographed in April 1979 shortly before the centre was fully completed. The architect for the centre was Wilson & Womersley.
Manchester's #Arndale bus station opened in the late 1970s but, to be honest, never looked as inviting as it does in this official photo. There were few regrets when it closed, precipitated by the IRA bomb planted just around the corner from here in 1996. Its functions are now undertaken by #Shudehill Interchange, a far more modern and comfortable place.
