The Blue Crystal Ice Cave at Skaftafell, Iceland

Stuff That's Awesome III

This is an ice cave, known as "crystal Cave" on the frozen lagoon of the Svínafellsjökull glacier in Skaftafell, Iceland. This snow, which is up to 1000 years old has metamorphosed into highly pressurized glacier ice that contains almost no air bubbles.

Blue ice cave at the Jostedalsbreen glacier The Jostedal Glacier National Park surrounds Jostedalsbreen - the largest glacier in Norway on the continent of Europe. This is a big plateau glacier with many glacial outcroppings. In the national park there are also many smaller separate glaciers. Glaciers and water have shaped the landscape with many moraines and other geologically interesting phenomena like this blue ice cave.

Photo taken at Trollkirka, also known as the Troll Church, in Norway near Molde. After less than two hours of climbing, we enter the cave, at the end of which we can enjoy this wonderful view.

Trollkyrkja / The Troll’s church, named after the mountain’s peaks which resembles a gathering of trolls. The Troll’s church consists of three lime-caves with underground streams and beautiful waterfals. Near Molde, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.
