David Livingstone (1813~1873) was born in Blantyre, S. Lanarkshire. A doctor and missionary, he traveled to Africa and charted previously unknown bodies of water including the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls. Sent to find Livingstone, journalist Henry Stanley, upon locating him uttered the now well-know words, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"
