Blackwork Tangram Embroidery Pattern

Product details
This modern blackwork design is inspired by those lovely, old, wooden tangram pieces filled with deep colors and infinite possibilities. It's a lovely design playing off of both an old mathematical toy and traditional blackwork filling patterns. If you or someone you love likes geometric patterns this is definitely a good thing to stitch! (Fun fact: The finished sample in the picture is stitched on a 6" by 6" Aida canvas block sold at Michaels, and it fits perfectly. You don't even need an embroidery hoop or frame for this project!)
The outline is done using perle cotton instead of embroidery floss, giving each of the seven tangram pieces a bold definition. While each filling stitch in the design uses a different color, much like a tangram set would, though it's easy to give this piece a more classical blackwork feel by simply using all black for the filling stitches. You can also easily substitute your favorite colors in to make the design your own! Despite its seeming complexity, it's actually a (relatively) quick project given the ample whitespace and the fact that it's designed for 14 count fabric, and is a good first blackwork project.
