A "super Moon" will light up Saturday's night sky in a once-a-year cosmic show, overshadowing a meteor shower from remnants of Halley's Comet, the U. space agency NASA said (photo taken May 2012 @ EDT )
If you live north of New York, you could be in for a treat tonight. A solar flare is heading toward Earth and could result in a rare view of the aurora borealis, visible far south of where it can usually be seen.
NASA shows a solar flare (lower center) erupting from the sun on Thursday. Space weather scientists said there should be little impact to Earth. The flare erupted from a region which rotated into view earlier this month.
Solar storms on the way. A color-coded image from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory highlights the solar flare thrown off from the sun's disk today in shades of gold and yellow.
This artist's concept illustrates the hottest planet yet observed in the universe. The scorching ball of gas, a 'hot Jupiter' called HD is about 3 times hotter than the rocky surface of Venus, the hottest planet in our solar system.
