The uncovering of the candle light (at the left) is not only an allusion to the parable of the lamp under a basket (Mt 5:14–15; Mk 4:21–22; Lk 8:16 and 11:33), but also a simile for Luther’s reformation as revelation of the true gospel. Behind Luther there is a little goose as a symbol for Jan Hus (Czech husa means “goose”), who was considered as Luther’s precursor. Protestant Reformation-  Is a religious reform movement that divided western Churches into Catholics and Protestants. The reason for this reform was the corruption with Popes during the Renaissance. They were becoming too involved in military affairs and not so involved in the church. So some Christians separated and wanted to be Protestants.(Rains)
